MAKANNA

MAKANNA  aims to expand access to safe, inclusive and quality education while strengthening child protection and psychosocial support for children affected by conflict and their families in Gedaref State.

The project focuses on:

 -  Expanding access to education and supporting children who are out of school to re-enter government schools. 

 - Strengthening child protection and psychosocial support services for children and caregivers. 

 - Improving learning and school environments across 30 schools. 

 -  Building the capacity of facilitators, school committees and community structures. 

 - Supporting children’s participation through life-skills activities and child and adolescent clubs. 

 - Strengthening coordination with education authorities and community structures to promote sustainable education and protection services. 

Education

 - Supported access to alternative education for children affected by conflict. 

 - Bridged out-of-school children into government schools. 

 -  Provided educational materials, printed learning materials and examinations. 

 -  Trained facilitators on alternative education approaches. 

 -  Supported 30 schools with student and teacher supplies, school bags, furniture/mats, tarpaulins and sports materials.
 

Child Protection & Psychosocial Support

 -  Provided individual and group psychosocial support. 

 - Strengthened case management and referral mechanisms. 

 - Conducted awareness activities for mothers and caregivers. 

 -  Provided support to Sudanese Certificate students. 

 - Promoted child safeguarding and protection through codes of conduct, awareness materials and school-based protection structures. 

School & Learning Environment

 -  Supported partial rehabilitation of 30 schools, including windows, doors, seating, painting and electrical works. 

 - Supported tree-planting activities in 20 schools. 

 -  Established school committees across 30 schools. 

 - Trained school committee members and facilitators on accountability, PSEA and AAP.

Capacity Building

 -  Trained facilitators on alternative education. 

 -  Trained facilitators on case management. 

 - Trained facilitators on life skills and establishment of adolescent clubs. 

 -  Supported the establishment and activation of child and adolescent clubs in participating schools.
